What To Pack For a Winter Trip In Israel

What To Pack For a Winter Trip In Israel

Israel is a country on many peoples' lists to visit due to it's vast history and natural beauty. So much to see and do, from hiking and the outdoors, to museums,  and religious and historical places. If you are visiting during winter, here are some items you might need on your adventures. You definitely want to pack lightly and efficiently as possible since Israel has different weather depending on where you are in the country and what time of day it is.

Sea of Galilee

A Water Bottle

This is especially important if you are doing more active things like hiking, which I definitely suggest you do during your trip. (Hike Masada at sunrise if you can!) Even though it is not as hot as it is during the summer (50 to high 60 degrees fahrenheit,) you should still try and stay hydrated. This will also help with any feelings of jetlag, or dehydration from the flight.

Fleece Jacket

The weather definitely fluctuated during my trip, but I was glad I had a number of different layers to work wirth. I think what was most beneficial for me was bringing my Patagonia Better Sweater Fleece Jacket because it was easy to layer but also still warm enough to wear on its own. I probably wore this jacket everyday of my trip, but it was very flattering and also very comfortable.

Quick Drying Towel

Now this is something I wish I had brought with me. If you are going to be going to be getting wet like when visiting the hot springs at Hamat Gader or the Dead Sea, I would say that this is a necessity. It took me days to dry my regular towels after using them, which is not really that fun (all my clothes that touched my wet towel smelled like sulfur or salt.) A quick drying towel like the one below will be easy to both pack and dry.

Fold-able Bags

Extra bags I would say are a must and for a number of different reasons. Having an extra backpack or duffel can make it easier to buy some extra souvenirs if you need, and also can be super helpful for day-trips. Bringing some extra plastic bags or reusable grocery bags is very important as well. You never know when you might need one. You can use them for dirty clothes, wet bathing suits, dirty shoes and more. Since they fold up, they will barely take up any space in your bag too!

Modest Clothing

If you are visiting Israel, you are probably going to visit at least one holy site. While in Jerusalem, come prepared with long pants (or skirt if you are female,) and a sweater or scarf to cover your shoulders. If you are not dressed appropriately, you will not be allowed in some of the Christian, Muslim and Jewish holy sites. You can stash an extra sweater, skirt or pants in a bag if you need to change.

Being prepared can make a trip so much easier and less stressful, especially when you have a ton of activities planned and sites to see. Don't forget these items during your winter trip to Israel. You will definitely be relieved that you came prepared.
